Flame trees

I believe the flame trees of Africa (or at least those most commonly called that) are Delonix regia.
There are a few (and only a few) in California's Mediterranean climate areas but they are restricted to those areas with lenghthy summer heat. Riverside, an interior Mediterranean climate with no significant winter cold, for example, has some nice ones.
Also note that they take MANY years to flower from small plants.
