Bill,
As Diane states, it does take both sexes to set fruit,
according to my reference book by Cave/Paddison on New
Zealand plants. It looks quite similar to the far
more common C. repens, or Mirror Shrub, except that
the fruit is red colored rather than green. Perhaps
you have a male plant. My single female plant always
sets fruit, even though I don't see any other C.
repens anywhere in the immediate neighborhood. They
also self sow quite readily here in Berkeley/San
Francisco.
