There are a few specimens of the variety Purpurea around town (Marina,
7 miles north of Monterey in California) that have been turned into
small trees, and they're all about 20 feet high, I'd guess (they are
well over the height of a . Our neighbors have several planted along
their fence that they tried to restrict as hedges, but they've easily
grown taller than they can keep them cut back, and are now  as high as
the roof of my house. They seem to have given up hedging them as well.
