I have just received a couple of grey 'ears' from Florida.I have never seen
anything like these before ( except attached to heads) and wondered if
anyone could tell me more about the tree they came from and its growing
requirements.
The information I have is that the tree is commonly known as 'Ear Tree', it
is of the
Leguminosae family, grows up to 75 ft. tall and has small greenish -white
flowers. The'ears' are about 3 inches across, hard ( a bit like papier mache)
and the seeds rattle around inside them..
I would very much like to grow this .If it would not prove hardy with me
(-5c for short periods in winter) would it produce the pods in my
conservatory..frost -free and max. height 16 ft.?
Thanks.
