There were disastorus wild fires in my area (La Costa and
Encinitas, California) at the end of the summer last year. Winter has
brought consistant rain, more consistant than in many years. The wild
flower display in the burned areas is stunning. I have been walking in the
burned out area just off Oleivnhein road. There are fine stands of
Shooting Stars, Clumps of wild onions (Alliums) in full bloom, and endless
fields of Blue Dicks (Dichelostemma) and Blue-Eyed Grass. One can only
dream of what California was like before we paved it over. The display is
still in an early stage, don't miss it as those hills will probably be
growing houses soon.
