Things are just about as chaotic in New Zealand, but the growing of
poppies is very lagely controlled by the would-be addicts!
Here it has become well-nigh impossible to grow ANY sort of poppy in
suburban gardens (Even in the privacy of the back yard) without some
deprived maniac coming in the dead of night and digging up the plants.
So few of us try to grow even respectable kinds any more.
Another cute little local racket is to take an old rundown house and
fill it up with sophisticated equipment (grow lights and so on) to raise
an indoor marijuana crop. This is a considerable advance in
sophistication on the booby trapped patch in the local bush, but the
police often find them just the same..
