This is the other reason I won't grow poppies in the front yard; I don't
want to attract the weirdos. I know of a woman here who had a nice stand
of brilliant pink opium poppies in her front yard; she was standing in the
living room and saw a van stop by her curb. A man jumped out of the back,
rushed into her garden, ripped up the whole patch of poppies in one fell
swoop, and ran back into the van. By the time she picked her jaw up off
the floor, the van had sped off. I don't want to attract that, and
besides, know knows what they would trample in the process! Just the
other day my landlord was here with his wife; she nonchalantly stepped
right into my patch of cyclamen coum and stood admiring the house. "Sorry
dears, the world is *not* made of indoor-outdoor carpet....Allo?
Parlez-vous vache? Meuuuuuu?" Grrrr. (Pardon my french in every sense of
the expression.)
