'Geranium'

Dear Alex,
Good to hear from you.  I must get out the atlas and see where  abouts you
Californians are.  I suppose you read the letters from Sue and Karen, both
in Calif, which I have just answered.    .
I didn’t intend to get so ‘hooked’ on geraniums ... just wanted to grow a
few for fun, like you.  However joining the Ger Soc got me wanting just
about everything I saw and as you say they are so easy to propagate, so I
ended up selling hundreds each year.  Oh well it keeps me busy and sales
pay for the potting mix etc.
I have had to cut down this year though as I have had pretty serious back
problems, which have been coming on for years.  Have been told I need
surgery, but am holding off any trying all sorts of alternatives..
We have top dressed th lawn with the soil from the pots I have thrown out!
Anything that looked sick, or ones I have too many of.   My Ivies are in
15” tubs with a 36’ circle of wire mesh which forms a cylinder on top of
the pot.  They they look great in flower but are just to heavy to shift
about to suit the seasons, so a lot of them ‘went west’ as well. 
 I have ½ an acre of land which has a creek, tree ferns etc.  I have the
garden planted with mostly perenials which are fighting it out for space
and have to look after themselves practically.   Have lots of day lilies
which are hardy and just need a good feed now and again.

You’ll see in my note to Karen that we may be able to exchange photos etc.
Do you have a scanner and could you receive pictures etc, as an
attachment??    I don’t know too much about this business and rely on my
partner to help with some of the technical stuff.
It would be interesting to see some geranium catalogues  from U.S.   as it
seems you have a lot of varieties that we don’t and vice versa.   I do get
the IGS magazine and see a lot of photos of ones I don’t know.
