Hello all
Geraniaceae is way out of my normal interests but when Marisa said there
were 5 Genera in the Family I just had to use my latest aquisition to
check.
I recently purchased a copy of "Vascular Plant Families and Genera"
compiled by RK Brummitt, published by the Royal Botanic Garden, Kew.
Anyway you may be interested to know that there are 11 recognised Genera
in the Family Geraniaceae
Balbisia Cav.
Biebersteinia Stephan
Dirachma Schweinf. ex Balf.f.
Erodium L'Her. ex Aiton
Geranium L.
Monsonia L.
Pelargonium L'Her. ex Aiton
Rhynchotheca Ruiz & Pav.
Sarcocaulon (DC.) Sweet
Viviania Cav.
Wendtia Meyen
It has the first listing, that I am aware of, of all known Genera in
each listed Family.
Which makes it very easy to check how many Genera you may be dealing
with in a Family
In the Genus listing, recognised Genera are in bold, while synonyms are
in italics with the appropriate Genus listed afterwards.
I have found the book a very usefull reference and am loath to part with
it, there are some book thieves among us unfortunately.
I ordered it direct from Kew via their web site at:
http://www.rbgkew.org.uk/
Can't remember the cost but it wasn't to much.
Cheers, Rod
