Well.......here in Central California, we're all being chilled. Its a
bit nippy outside. It feels like its about 50 degrees F outside.
There's still snow on Mt. Toro (about 30 miles away, but quite visible)
from the storm a few days ago, which brought trees down with its fierce
gusts, and mudslides with its pounding rain. I must say its better than
the cold snap though.
As for the yard: My Prunus cerassifera is now starting to bloom. All
the cherry and plum trees in the city are starting to flower. So, its a
wonderful sight, when usually nothing is flowering. I also dug up some
of the rhizomes of my bamboo (Phyllostachys aurea: A.K.A. the horror of
hell =) ). I havent let it get far, and ive been managing it. Dug down
to make sure there were no sneaky rhizomes down deep, and i took out a
few of the stems. They'll make a great something or other. So now its
just a few stems. It was getting ready to send up new culms, but
hopefully i didnt take all the shoots out. I also trimmed the dead
vines and leaves off of my Jasminum polyanthemum. The cold snap really
did a number on it, and there were a lot of dead vines that didnt make
it. I also trimmed of some of the old inflorescences, and found two
dried fruits.
anyways thats about it for my garden. Not too much to say right now.
