To expand on this, I visited one of the commercial hopyards outside of
Sacramento (at Sloughhouse) in the 1980s. I think the commercial hopyards
are now gone. The hops had no trouble growing under those conditions.
Last year I planted some hops along a west-facing fence where they got a lot
of hot afternoon sun (that was where I had some empty space). Here we are
about 2 or 3 degrees F hotter than Sacramento, but the hops did OK and I was
able to harvest some cones last fall. However, hops need a lot of water,
especially during the heat of summer (they are _not_ a drought-tolerant
plant). Some of the leaves did have some some dieback around the edges.
Also, some cultivars did better than others.
Finally, hops are a very interesting plant!
