In defense of trying it from seed, I can offer a few methods to go ahead and 
try:

1) It's fun!
2) You'll learn something and have had the experience of knowing
   what a peach seedling looks like and see how it develops.
3) You will likely come up with something a little different.  Why
   leave it in the hands of the professionals?  The most popular
   apple in the U.S. (for better or worse...), Red Delicious, was
   an accidental seedling.  What you get may be different but it
   probably won't be bad.
