Re: Replies to list

I strongly agree with John's sentiments -- I find many of our discussions apparently prematurely terminated, probably because of the "reply to sender" setting of the listserver.

I am also a list owner on a couple of lists, and I found that we had to change to "reply to list" to keep any discussions alive. Now, of course, more than once I've sent a reply intended to be private to the whole list -- which serves to help keep me humble (maybe). It also reminds me not to say anything in a private e-mail that I would not want forwarded to (potentially) several hundred million of my fellow human beings.

I'm definitely enjoying the current discussions, and I thank everyone who is responding to the whole list.

Ellen,

I love this list and I think that Sean does a great job of monitoring it,
but my one peeve is that answers go to the individual rather than the list,
unless the respondent remembers to hit "reply all" or paste in the list
address (which I usually don't, and I suspect others don't either). I
believe this truncates many interesting discussion threads which would be of
wider interest. As an owner of several other lists, I know that you get a
few extraneous messages which SHOULD have gone to individuals if replies to
go the the list, but I consider this a small price to pay for wider response
and continuity. I wonder if Sean might consider changing the setting for
Medit-Plants to "replies to list"--at least as an experiment?
