My only caution would be that those of us who indulge in a corporate lifestyle in order to support our gardening habits are trained like parrots to use the "reply to" button instead of the "reply to all" when we DO have something private to add to a group discussion. We'd have to re-train ourselves to check carefully that our "by the way, your zipper is down" messages don't go out to the world. Small price to pay though for more and better plant talk...

I strongly agree with John's sentiments -- I find many of our discussions
apparently prematurely terminated, probably because of the "reply to
sender" setting of the listserver.
I am also a list owner on a couple of lists, and I found that we had to
change to "reply to list" to keep any discussions alive. Now, of course,
more than once I've sent a reply intended to be private to the whole list
-- which serves to help keep me humble (maybe). It also reminds me not to
say anything in a private e-mail that I would not want forwarded to
(potentially) several hundred million of my fellow human beings.
I'm definitely enjoying the current discussions, and I thank everyone who
is responding to the whole list.
