It's not flashy, but very organized...

I've used Excel to keep track of plantings.  Each
worksheet can be labeled, too, separating tasks by
month, year, etc.  You can also color code the cells.

I've kept inventory of the various plants I acquired,
entering species name, common name, family, plant
height, bloom color/time, and origin.
