Last year I bought a packet of Italian artichoke seeds - Caricofo di
Romagna- either at a local nursery or at the Landscape Garden Show in SF.
Beautiful oversized plastic packet. Very nice artwork on the front. Brandname
was Pagano, I think - (The last letter was so artisticly drawn it was impossible
to discern whether it was in "O" or not.) Said they were "Mediterranean
Tastes" in three languages. Yellow, Green, and Blue panels on the back of
the packet. With all that art, definitely NOT your K-Mart level of
quality. A sitck-on label said Lake Valley Seed, Boulder, Colorado. I
planted some. I waited Percentage that germinated = 0.

For those of you who immediately went into the "NOT K-MART SEEDS!" response mode, let me make it clear that I'm not looking for THAT level of seed.I am familiar with a few European and Japanese packet companies -- the pictorial type found on store racks versus the plain packet type one receives from a mail-order company -- and I know there are such companies that offer some VERY nice, special stuff.Granted, it's the special mail-order types (SeedHunt, Chilterns, Silverhill, etc.) that offer the BEST seed selection for us plant nuts. But I'm looking for the larger market material. There's an academic reason. Thanks,Joe
