Nan, Joe,
I have grown Chondropetalum tectorum in a five-gallon plastic nursery can in
a two-foot deep pool, raised on bricks so that the top of the soil is level
with the water. Each February, when the rose pruning is over, I cut back
the old shoots, being careful not to damage the new shoots if they have
emerged. Then I knock the plant out of the pot (cut it if necessary). split
the root ball into four parts without disturbing the remaining ball, cut out
any dead roots, and repot. I put one back in the pool and keep the others
until they are fully established. I have never lost one.
