Hoping to draw on the enormous collective experience of this group I'd like
to throw out the question "Has anyone had an either successful or
unsuccessful experience propagating this fantastic rose?"
It has the reputation of being rather hard to prop, but I know Maggie and
Dorkus at Western Hills, Ed Carmen, Diana Reeck at Collectors and others
have gotten it to strike.
We have an especially good clone via Sarrah Hammond in Bolinas that is
quite vigorous and tends not to get secondary branching in its first year
-- leading to sky reaching bright red prickled branches up to 3 m. tall.
It's beautiful.
If someone has rooted this guy: What time of year is best? New
growth/hardened softwood/heal cuttings? It is now time to coppice it for
the year, and I'm wondering if it's worth trying to root now.
Thanks
