Despite my spelling, it is a lemony, edible root related to tumeric
and ginger.  I think that it's also known as Laos.  It looks much like
ginger and likes the same conditions - more tropical than medit.
Given protection from the wind & plenty of water these sorts of things
(even bananas) can be grown here.  I've had ginger for a few years -
it's a short & poor growing season but the roots survive from year to
year.

Flip side is that I just let my Jap. maple get sunburnt (idiot!)
