Where it *is* happy, it can be very weedy.  Even though it seems to reject
my garden, I've seen it become problematic. If it grows in California like
it does in the Mediterranean, I can imagine that gardeners there would be
wisely wary of it.  I've seen huge stands of it along the roadside in
Turkey.  Other thistles are mostly biennials and of course nobody has to
convince anyone of the obnoxiousness of Canada thistle.  I guess for me
its a matter of timing and climate.  Maybe I'm lucky but I'd give anything
to have a nice stand of those zebra-striped leaves!
