Banksias can be very very susceptible to damping off (as can many
Proteaceae)
take all precautions you can think of :-)
Well drained potting mixes, we used very coarse sandy mixes in the rehab
nurserys
and appropriate fungicides as a seed dressing can be usefull
In full sun even mid summer under 46°C heat at the minesite, they
germinated and established well!
You can't let them dry out under these conditions, but they are less
susceptible to damping off.
Best germination results for Banksias are in milder temperature ranges
though of 15 - 25° C
or equating to autumn for us which is the time you will see most native
seedlings emerge with all winter to put down a tap root to survive
summer.
Good luck
