I believe the book you are referring to is "Plant Life in the World's
Mediterranean Climates," by Peter Dallman, published by the California Native
Plant Society in conjunction with the University of California Press, 1998. I
can't give an informed opinion, yet. The author, however, is giving a
presentation on the subject and the book to the nascent N. Cal chapter of the
Mediterranean Garden Society on January 23. There should be plenty of
informed opinions after that date. Thanks for the tip on the Fynbos book.
