Re: Lawns

Dear Sue,
Last spring, when my husband and I went to see the once-in-100-years
display of wildflowers in Death Valley, we flew to Las Vegas and rented a
car there. We wanted to see Red Rock Canyon, which I had seen 20 years
before, while en route to Death Valley. We were amazed to find that new
houses have been built all the way up the alluvial plain to within 1/2
mile of this lovely spot, which had been far out in the country when I was
there before. All the buildings had obliterated sight of native american
locations along a seasonal waterway. All the houses, miles and miles of
them, had LAWNS! We couldn't believe it!
When in Death Valley, we asked where their water came from, since there
are many more people visiting there than there is water to take care of
them. They said that it is piped from the same mountains that Las Vegas
gets its water from.
