I know Bermuda and St. Augustine are tough grasses, but I can't imagine them
going for months without water and still looking like a lawn. When we had our
big drought a few years back, and many Bay area communities passed ordinances
forbidding lawn watering, I distinctly recall many very dead-looking lawns and
gardens all around the Bay area. Plus, I always thought that Bermuda and St.
Augustine were winter-dormant grasses. I know they turn brown here in the
winter. Speaking of Bermuda grass, I think I'd rather have Oxalis corniculata
as a weed in my lawn than Bermuda grass. That stuff is so invasive, and
virtually impossible to eradicate.
