My understanding is that "wood sorrel" or "redwood sorrel" is Oxalis
oregana is not a Sorrel. O. oregana is native in California and Oregon
where it grows on the floor of redwood forests. Thus is requires shade and
moisture and coolness. It has the three lobed leaves and pretty pink
flowers. I have never heard of it being a weed, but of course, it wouldn't
be in Southern California.
O. oregana is more upright, and the leaves and flowers are smaller than
the pink oxalis weed we have. I do not know that one's botanical name. It
is no where near as agressive as O. corniculata or pes-caprae but is
definately a weed here..
I agree that the best part of being part of this list is the world wide
aspect. I have learned so much.
