Dear all,
Someone out there asked about 'other' plants and 'moving on' from
Auracarias and other stuff. So i thought I'd throw in some other
plants I am trying to grow.
First, has anybody experience with the Sea Daffodil - Pancratium
maritimum. I have had three bulbs for two years, they grow and die
down but no flowers yet. I know they live in the sand dunes right on
the high water marks of beaches around the Med. Anything I can do to
prompt flowering, or is it just a case of waiting until they are
'mature' and conjested like Nerines? Now I have a chance to raise
some seed - any advice out there?
Who grows species peonies besides myself? I was knocked out to see
clumps of Peonia cambessedesii growing in huge rock falls - screes -
at the base of montrous limestone cliffs on Mallorca; again almost
down to the water line on the NE shore at Torre de Ariant. Once I saw
the huge tuberous root systems disappearing into the fist sized
rocks, fully exposed to the heat and direct sunshine all day, not to
mention the reflected heat from the brilliant white rocks, I
understood that these plants can be tough. I have P. rhodea, P,
graeca, P. mlokowitschiana, P. peregrina, P. lithophilla, P, emodii,
P. biebersteiniana, P. mascula and others. Anyone else giving them a
go.
regards
