On the way to the Obon Festival at our local Buddhist temple today, i saw
a yard where there was a bougainvillea covered in it's colorful bracts. I
barely saw any leaves at all, and it was a wonderful shade of hot magenta.
The soil it was growing in is pure sand. I've noticed that while we dont
get much heat here in my town in summer, all the bougainvilleas flower
spectacularly.

There was also a very nice Distictis (i think it was buccinatoria) at
another house that was just starting to flower.
