all are either devoted exclusively to California plants or have
significant sections of them.

Additionally, the Rowntree, Foothill College, and UC Santa Cruz
gardens are somewhat endangered themselves by various expansion/
construction projects.

Generally speaking, late July and August finds much of the native
flora here bloomed out and either setting seed or in summer dormancy
at the lower elevations such as those near the coast.  The real flower
action is up in the High Country that time of year.  Still, many
of our shrubs and trees are evergreen, and provide year round interest.
Certainly the coastal flora has a unique feel to it whenever you see it.

If you could find Bill Grant, who is presently touring gardens in
England even as I type, he could tell you a lot more, as he lives
in Los Altos.  Someday, if you're ever here in June, you should drive
through the foothills just to see the Buckeye in flower.
