Concerning the lack of breba figs, one possibility is that a spring frost
(for example, in late March or April) caused damage.
Pruning can interfere with breba crop formation (depending on how the
pruning is done, the breba crop can be increased or decreased).
It's also possible that the lack of winter rains is involved. Around here
people are used to irrigating (if there is lack of winter rains), so I'm not
really sure what effect inadequate water in winter (and early spring) would
have. May is very late (at least around here the figs have already had quite
a bit of growth and the days have become hot).
Around here it seems that how much breba is produced varies from year to
year.
