Nan & Joe -

You should known that this quick growing ornamental has been found to be 
weedy where water is available year 'round.  It should be kept away from 
riparian environs in California and not be grown in locales where it might 
find its way to those habitats (see web page link below for more information).

This species was very popular locally here in the Bay Area a number of 
years ago as well, and this was probably where it got its start as a 
weed.  Personally, I found that its fast growth, profuse bloom, and heavy 
seeding were what I disliked about this plant - it really acted more like 
an annual or biennial than a shrub.  It was very difficult to keep looking 
good for any length of time.

Anyway, people should be advised:
