I'm not sure which type of bindweed I have here in Mendocino
County about two miles from the coast, but I certainly have
one of them. It has smallish pinkish white flowers when it
blooms. I just keep pulling up the greenery and after a few
years I'm sure it will go away if it never blooms or sets
seeds.
I graded part of the garden last summer for a pond and low
and behold a new weed, some type of echinops appeared a
month ago. The seed must have been waiting to be exposed.
Fortunately I discovered it before it went to seed so I
think I have stopped its progress.
I have to laugh, almost every weed mentioned on this list
seems to be growing in my garden, not to mention several
that aren't up for discussion.
The most noxious weed that I have I don't know the name of
but it spreads by underground runners, has medium green
leaves about the size of a little finger and sends up a stem
with reddish seeds on it. Any tiny piece of root in the
ground will grow and spread. I have spent hours in the
flower beds digging it up. If I do it every month I can
eventually get it out of a bed. However it is all over the
garden in the grassy areas so I don't think I can ever
eradicate it.
