Charl,
I saw the same picture, and it continues to intrigue
me as a possible plant for California, but no one is
growing this commerically here that I know of. I was
hoping someone else would perhaps reply and have some
info for you. I do seem to recall having seen a
container specimen brought in by either Don Mahoney of
Strybing Arboretum, or Martin Grantham when he was
working at UC Berkeley Botanic Garden, for one of the
past San Francisco Landscape Garden Show's New Plant
Exhibit, which is sponsored by the California
Horticultural Society every year. I don't think there
are any specimens planted outside in either garden,
but perhaps Jason Deweese in San Francisco can confirm
whether that is true or not. It is quite a
magnificent plant, and perhaps it is being grown in
New Zealand or Australia? Maybe Moira will add to
this post, or some of our contributors from
Australia...
