My vote on which phygelius you have comes down clearly in favor of the
hybrid, 'Moonraker'. The flower is just as you describe, and mine is also
vigorous and spreading! Tim Longville of our list warned me of it long ago,
and his words ring in my ears every time I pull/cut some of those questing
suckers!
However, with vigilance and annual winter root pruning, I've been able to
tame it a little. The pay-back is the fact that it is constantly in bloom
and really beautiful!
I also grow Phygelius 'Salmon Leap' and P. 'Sensation', neither of which are
so thuggy!
