G'Day everyone

Old members of Medit [not in real age!] may remember the fight that we were having against the clear felling and aerial spraying with deadly poisons and the laying of 1080 to kill the fauna of our bush that was taking place next door to our country garden. Many of you were so helpful in sending emails condemning these evil forestry practices. Finally after nearly 4 years, I am able to report that we all achieved small victories. Finally after a Tribunal hearing, a horrible experience as we were treated like common criminals by the forest giant company's nasty lawyer, we won in getting buffer zones to be replaced, no aerial spraying, testing of our water catchment areas and, best of all, no 1080 to be laid on this particular coupe. There was no action, unfortunately, on my appeal for the company to not plant Eucalyptus nitens on the coupe. This Euc. is the most water hungry of the whole family and is not endemic to Tasmania. The reason it is planted by Gunns [the largest company in the world, exporting wood chips] is because they can harvest 4/5 years earlier than Euc regnans. However, we managed, for the first time, to place a very large wedge into the vile practices and the fight goes on though the experience has taken great toll on my husband's health. We spent our 45th wedding anniversary at the Tribunal hearings and also Kees' 76th Birthday. No rubies for Gay [don't really like rubies] but no time to purchase a scarlet blooming plant :=[ Cheers Gay
