Thanks!, Joe.
I'm going to put the list of nurseries you
posted for Nan in the glovebox of my car
so I'll have it with me on my weekend
get-aways and longer junkets around
California.
As for nursery recommendations-
This is not a nursery recommendation but
you might want to stop at the brand new
CABRILLO COLLEGE HORTICULTURE CENTER
in Aptos just south of Sant Cruz and quite
close to Hwy 1. Rich Merrill, Ernie Wasson,
Lisa McAndrews and other tireless champions
of this program have created a brand new state-of-the-art hort facility on
11 acres
above campus. I can't promise but you might
be able to snag a tour and maybe a plant or
two from their notable salvia collection. The
number of the Hort Dept is 831-479-6241.
There's a NURSERY on the west side of Santa
Cruz called THE GARDEN COMPANY. Along with
the usual jumbo six packs they offer a small
number of unusual, (at the moment crested
ligularias and jade cascade selene), beauties
propagated by a local plantsman named Lance
and Terra Nova. I've had good success with
this nursery's plants in my balcony garden
near the ocean. Please note Highway 1 runs
right through Santa Cruz under the name of
Mission Street AND it would be worth a call
before you drop by to make sure LANCE is
there the day you visit: The Garden Company
2218 Mission street
Santa Cruz, CA
831-429-8424
And lastly, as long as you've gotten as far as
Palo Alto you might want to drive a bit more
to ANNIE'S ANNUALS fabulous NURSERY in
Richmond. For info on her plants and directions,
call 510-215-1326 or go to her website-
http://www.anniesannuals.com
Good gardening to you!
Nancy in Santa Cruz
