Besides Salvoa chamaedryoides (available as a clone from Arizona, introduced
via Greg Starr, and a larger flowered form from Yucca-Do), there are S.
glechomaefolia. (related to S. sinaloensis), S. chionophylla (which roots as
it goes along), S. muelleri (royal purple), S. coahuilensis (deep indigo),
S. lycioides x greggii `Los Lirios' (being sold as Salvia Navajo Deep
Purple) All of these except the first are related and have more or less
sprawling habits and layer themselves.
There are some Central Asian and Chinese sages like S. hians that might be
compact enough.
