I am in the exact same zone and have a spot JUST like that: fence on one side, reflected sun side is the pool and a paved pool surround! I have planted Podocarpus gracilior which is fairly easy to prune to stay within bounds and makes a rather nice screen after 7 or so years. Don’t know if you want something that tall however.

Hi all -
Do any of you have favorite 'narrow plants', as in 18" to 24" wide?
The two sides of the walkway get opposite sun exposure - one the morning sun, the other side gets hot afternoon sun with additional reflected light.
I am in California, USA Zone 9, Western Sunset Zone 14 -16.
Joe?
Thanks - Ann
