Re: Thevetia peruviana for dry garden?

I have it growing in western exposure, filtered shade beneath a pepper tree and very little (if any) water.  It does fine.  I am only about 4 miles from the coast so it doesn't get much above 90 in my garden except for a few summer days.

Looking at what is growing in my area to give me ideas for a dry garden I am developing, I notice that this shrub is flourishing in situations where it is unlikely it is given any water such as a small roadside tree. Does anyone have experience of growing it without water once established. References on the internet and in books say it grows best with ample summer water.
