Drought Troubles

Having gardened for sixty years, earlier in Los Angeles and now on Monterey Bay, I think I have experienced just about everything that nature offers those who love to plant. One thing is certain: hardy roses have stayed healthy in the worse droughts - the kind that need little maintenance once they are established. The other great gift in my life has been Australian native plants - imagine growing beautiful plants that need no water in the summers! The big problem is to convince people to tear up their lawns and learn to live with the environment where they garden. Heresy! But you can create a sustainable paradise if you go with the flow.
