In nature it would probably spend a very hot dry summer every year and is possibly becoming "lazy" with plenty of water available. I am afraid your zone number doesn't mean much to me, but I wonder if you could put it outdoors, at least in summer if your climate is appropriate. My Australian handbook says :- "The most common and hardiest species in cultivation ... Will grow in any soil provided the drainage is good with adequate sun, if they are not shaded or watered too much. This greatly increases the possibility of disease. They will tolerate humidity, extreme heat, dryness and qute a degree of frost." Moira New Zealand
