Reason for slumping: THose annual grasses that took over the native perennial
grasses have very shallow root systems. If there were no annual grasses there
all the hillsideds would be perfectly fine. Reason is is because their root
systems can reach several feet into the soil and they have many more roots,
therefore binding the soil better than annual grasses.
