Michael:
Salvia divinorum does not set seed well, since most horticultural forms have
been selected by Mixe Indians of Oaxaca for their potency. A number of
these are commercially available, some over the Internet. Consult Danny
Siebert for details (siebert@ix.netcom.com). Logee's Greenhouses of
Danielson, CT sells it and will ship overseas. Their URL is
http://logees.com/www/ and their address is:

I've collected information on the promotion of blooming of this sage. It
has successfully bloomed in Orlando, Florida and on the West coast of the
US. It is important that it be kept warm and humid during the short days
when it will bloom, and not be overstimulated with nitrogen. The easiest
way to prevent bloom is to shine light on it after dark. It isn't as
sensitive as poinsettas; it takes a modest number of illuminations to abort
the blooming. Seed production is possible, but is sparse.
When you can get it to bloom, it is an outstanding ornamental, as showy as
Salvia leucantha. It has modest amounts of white flowers on 8 inch electric
sky blue-lavender heads.
>From what I am told, most people won't want to take more than one trip, but
there are a group of individuals who are actively pursuing legal highs and
entheogens. My interest is in its use as an ornamental and as a curiosity.
I'd like to see it investigated for its mode of activity, since the active
component is a diterpene, a class of compounds that aren't normally
psychotropic. I'm hoping it will be useful for shedding light on learning
disabilities.
