We are trying this, growing it from seed (ex Thompson & Morgan) in pots,
under warm glass. We couldn't find any growing information either!
So far our own experience suggests that the plants start bulbing up
prematurely if they are dry or starved - a bit like onions in that respect.
They seem to need quite a lot of water, to put on as much growth as they're
capable of, but are definitely capable of standing up to a dry spell. I've
been feeding them with a low nitrogen fertiliser at half strength every
week or two, and again they seem to respond well to this.
