Re: Double Mystery-Noailles

Can anyone tell me anything about him? And thanks again.<

As I once lived next door to le Jardin Noailles I suppose I should come in
on this. At that time the Count allowed anyone living in the 'quartier' to
wander in his garden as one wished and I would sometimes meet him there to
exhange an hello. The garden was at that time in perfect order but after
he died it was closed and neglected for some time until his nephew decided
to open it to the public again and brought in an English couple to restore
it. They changed a few things I wouldn't have changed, but at at least got
it back into shape. They left last year some time(?) and the garden was
again closed, I believe. I know students from the Grasse 'Med. Gardening
school' were sent to clean up early this year and since I've heard no more.
Noaille's book 'Plantes de jardins mediterraneens' (also available in
English, Roy Lancaster is the co-author) is still one of the best basic
references for plants to grow in this region, I think.
