Thanks to all for your interesting information concerning Villa Noailles
and my mysterious furcreas/beschornerias.
Thanks, too to Eric for your reminiscences of this wonderful garden. How
lucky you were to see it in its prime. We were also able to visit the
first Jardin Villa Noailles above Hyeres. And, although interesting, it
didn't have the mysterious haunting quality of the one in Grasse. I hope
you'll go back there to have another look at it.
To Sean: I'm sorry, all my pictures are slides as I use them for
lectures and teaching. I'll be happy to lend you some if you can scan
them, after I use them at the Los Angeles Arboretum Garden Show. I think
Eric would be a better choice to write about Villa Noailles, but I would
be happy to write something about one of the Provence gardens: Jas Crema
near Carpentras, or Mme Nicole Arboireau's garden in Frejus.
Upland, California is just north of Ontario, up against Mount San
Antonio, affectionately called "Old Baldy", and just east of Rancho
Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont.
