They are extremely slow-growing. As for flowering after 5 years, well
I wish mine would! It's about 8 years old, 5ft or so and shows absolutely
no
signs of flowering. It's in more or less full sun and likes a lot of water.
I am in Adelaide, South Australia so it's probably a bit too 'Mediterranean'
for it, as it's a sub-tropical plant. It's a beautiful conical shape, with
the
branches arising regularly at right angles to the trunk. We seldom if
ever have sub-zero temperatures. Incidentally it has never had the leaf-
yellowing (magnesium deficiency?) that my hybrid gardenias suffer from
periodically.
