The ripe fruits were used by early New Zealand colonists to make jam, and
are not poisonous.

The leaves do vary on S.laciniatum. My bush has the vast majority of its
leaves entire and linear, with only a small percentage being lobed. The
longest leaves on it are 20 cms long and, apart from those that are lobed,
the larger leaves are 2 to 3 cms across.
