If you had any English connections you would probably not have got these
the wrong way round. Blue is the colour associated with sporting
activities in the two old universities of Oxford and Cambridge and in
both one can be awarded a "blue" for excellence in any of the major
sports the students take part in.
Most British children would know almost from the cradle that Cambridge
blue is the LIGHT one and Oxford blue the DARK one, but this piece of
folklore is probably not well known except in the country itself or
among its close associates.
