By the way - I have a picture of S. patens on my web site that is very
true-to-color: the URL is
http://weber.u.washington.edu/~bbeer/spatens.html. I think most will agree
that there is nothing violet about it - I'd be interested in seeing a violet
one.
Another plant I really love for blue is Salvia guaranitica. My photo of it
unfortunately came out rather purplish looking, but the plant I have is very
blue - the flowers have a clear quality that reminds me of cobalt glass when
backlit.
