Re: Seaweed - salt?
I must admit to never having bothered to rinse off the salt from
freshly collected seaweed - except when using it for very delicate
plants and ferns. In the 6 or 7 years of spreading it about here,
there have been no problems that can be attributed to salt build up in
the soil. That said, my soil is basically tiny bits of rock (mudstone
fragments) interspersed with added humus, so drainage is very sharp to
say the least. Our fairly high winter rainfall combined with very
heavy summer watering on a twice daily basis, seems to prevent the
build up of anything let alone salt.
